The match between Federer and Nikolay Davydenko of Russia at least had colorful shoelaces — Federer won 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Upset!
On Margaret Court Court this morning at 11:00, unseeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Barcelona walked out, dug in on the baseline, and spent the next hour and a half throwing heavy munitions over the net at number 7 seed Sara Errani of Bologna, Italy. It worked: Carla took the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Here’s my photo of Carla at work on Court Court:
Fashion Statement!
On Court 11 this afternoon, Daria Gavrilova of Russia – a qualifier here at the Australian Open – and Lauren Davis of Boca Raton in the U.S. went head-to-head in matching tennis outfits. Gavrilova walked off with the match 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-4. Here’s Davis; Gavrilova is shown in the previous post.

Marina Erakovic of Auckland, New Zealand, 1st Round, January 14
A thrilling match on Court 13. (I’m an outer court rat). Alize Cornet of France defeated Marina Erakovic of New Zealand 7-5, 6-7 (3), 10-8. The large Kiwi contingent cheered loudly for Erakovic, and both women played world-class tennis, but finally Cornet walked off Court 13 the winner.
